Two weeks ago tropical storms with heavy rip currents removed over half of our beach sand. We immediately went to DERM to get a permit to replenish what was lost. The permitting process is a long one and the only way we could get sand in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday was to ask for an emergency permit that would allow up to 11 truckloads of sand to be delivered to our beach. DERM came to the Island, took sand samples and we then expedited the process with them. We made arrangements to have the sand delivered as soon as the permit was approved, in hopes of having it time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. That permit was approved yesterday afternoon and today they are delivering and spreading the sand. This process should be completed by late afternoon. We will still have the west half of the beach available for use by our members. The 11 truckloads will not replenish all of the sand that was lost but will give a lot more beach than what we have had over the last few days. We are continuing our process with DERM to gain approval to replace all the sand that was lost. We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we regain a portion of our beach for the holidays.
